Prospero Año y Felicidad

The Taco Maria family would like to wish our fans and friends a muy feliz New Year! Thank you for being a part of this exciting year for us. Your love of tacos, your enthusiasm for REAL food, and your support for our little restaurant-on-wheels is what keeps us going into 2012.

Since we launched in September, you’ve welcomed us home and into to the OC dining spotlight, honored us with glowing reviews of our food, and named us among OC’s best food trucks and restaurants.

We are grateful for 2011 and excited about what will come in the next year. We’re just getting started!

Won’t you join us in welcoming 2012 at OC Fair’s New Year’s Eve Block Party this Saturday?

From 7:30pm New Year’s Eve to 1:30am New Year’s Day, we’ll be partying in Costa Mesa along with some of Orange County’s best luxe loncheras, tribute bands from decades past, cocktails, desserts, fireworks and more.

Thank you, Orange County, and Happy New Year!

Eats in Our Very Own Streets

We’re proud to be participating in this week’s Eats in the Streets fundraiser, organized by The Community Foundation of Orange and benefiting their outreach programs in our hometown.

The event is this Friday, September 23rd from 5PM to 9PM at The Village at Orange, in the parking lot at Meats & Canal – literally, in our own front yard.

A special thank you to Melissa’s World Variety Produce for sponsoring us in this event with a contribution of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Serving the Orange and Villa Park Communities, CFO’s programs include:

KidsPlay

Through KidsPlay, a first-of it’s kind program in the Greater Orange Community, the Community Foundation of Orange opens the doors to youth sports programs for many children whose families, until now, simply could not afford to let them play.

Community Scholarship Program

To provide additional education opportunities for youth in the Greater Orange Community, the Foundation established the Hobbs Transfer Student Scholarship Program, helping bridge the financial gap for students attending college in Orange.

Studio Orange

Studio Orange, the newest CFO program, is focused on cultivating creativity, increasing arts education opportunities, and building appreciation of the Arts in the Greater Orange Community.

As Orange residents and Villa Park High School graduates, our family would like to thank Community Foundation of Orange for the work they’re doing in the areas of Orange County closest to our hearts. We hope that you will come out and help raise funds for their amazing programs.

Roots

At Taco María, we’re excited to bring new traditions together with the old, starting from the ground up with the most basic Mexican food ingredients. We’ve received our first shipment of heirloom dried beans from Rancho Gordo, Steve Sando’s “New World Specialty Food” company in Napa, California.

Rancho Gordo aims to revive indigenous ingredients and support California agriculture as well as farmers and forgotten varieties from across the border.

The Rio Zape bean is a very special legume, dark and mysterious with subtle flavors of coffee and cocoa. We cook it very simply with brûlée onions, garlic, and bay leaf and mash it coarsely for our rich refried beans.

North America’s own Tepary bean was developed by indigenous people to be drought tolerant. These little white beans have a unique texture and a mild maple-syrup aroma and are best presented whole. We cook them lovingly with a beso of ancho chile and a touch of piloncillo (Mexican raw sugar.)

Meet Frida

Welcome to TacoMaría.com. It’s our pleasure to introduce you to Frida, our kitchen on wheels. She was born in East LA at West Coast Catering Trucks and dressed in vinyl by the talented team at Wrap One in Anaheim.

So named because of her mustache and her fierce individualism, Frida will be taking us all over Orange County to serve our sustainable Mexican cuisine in your neighborhood and at your local farmer’s markets.

We’ll be rolling out soon to locations in Orange, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, Fullerton, Irvine and more in the next few weeks.
