In August 2015, Mexico's regulatory agencies lifted a hold on the cultivation of GMO crops, including commodity maize, within its borders. Prominent Mexican chefs believe that transgenic maize endangers the country's diverse traditional landrace corn and threatens small farms—the solitary guardians of Mexico's agricultural legacy.
